Michael Gove will be the speaker at the London Press Club 2022 Awards Lunch on Wednesday 26 October.
The politician and former journalist who has been on the frontline of the most fascinating political period in decades, follows an illustrious list of speakers at the awards lunch.
Previous speakers have included David Cameron, Tony Blair, the director of MI5 Andrew Parker and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
The Press Club Awards lunch (see booking details below) will take place at Stationers’ Hall which has just reopened after a major refurbishment of the media livery company’s building near St Paul’s Cathedral.
Editors and their journalists still have the chance to submit material for judging in the London Press Club Awards and the Cudlipp Award.
The Cudlipp Award returns after a two-year “Covid” break and for the first time will be awarded as part of the London Press Club Awards lunch. The Cudlipp Award (sponsored by British Journalism Review) will be for campaigning and investigative journalism published in 2021 or up until the end of July 2022.
The Londoner of the Year will be announced on the day. Last year’s award winner was Emma Raducanu, and at the previous in-person awards Londoner of the Year David Attenborough enthralled the audience with his acceptance speech.
Other Press Club Awards that will be announced on the day are:
- Daily Newspaper of the year
- Sunday Newspaper of the year
- Journalist of the year
- Broadcaster of the year
- Multi-media journalist of the year
- Sports journalist of the year
- Business journalist of the year
- Scoop of the year
- Young journalist of the year
- Edgar Wallace Award for journalism of the highest quality
The winner of the Young Journalist of the Year Award (open to those under 25) will receive a £1,000 prize. This award is supported by The Journalists’ Charity.
As in previous years, entries are not required for the Press Club awards – or for the Cudlipp Award – although submissions are welcomed from editors and individual journalists. Press Club award submissions should have been published in the previous 12 months and be sent by 6 September to info@londonpressclub.co.uk
Broadcaster and journalist Nick Ferrari will, as last year, chair the London Press Club Awards judging panel.
