The London Press Club has announced that Andrew Marr will be the keynote speaker at its 2021 Awards Lunch ceremony.
The Awards Lunch will be held on Wednesday 27 October at the Royal Over-seas League in St James’s. It will be the first in-person awards since the outbreak of Covid.
Editors were today reminded that while no entries are required for the awards, submissions can be made direct to the judges. There are no entry fees for these submissions, which need to be submitted by the end of September.

Chair of the award judges Nick Ferrari said: “It’s what we have all been missing. How brilliant to be able to celebrate the best of journalism with a face-to-face awards.”
The previous live awards staged by the London Press Club was in April 2019 when David Attenborough received the Londoner of the Year trophy. In 2020 because of Covid restrictions the club’s prestigious ceremony went online, as did all the media awards.
Press Club chair Doug Wills said the decision to hold the awards live was made after there was enthusiastic support from members for a summer drinks party in August.
“The timing feels right,” said Wills. “Everybody wants the chance to celebrate the superb journalism we have seen during the past 18 months and network with colleagues.”
The 2021 Awards will be for work published or broadcast between April 2020 and September 2021.
There will be three new categories:
- Multi-media journalist of the Year
- Specialist journalist of the Year
- Young journalist of the Year
These will be in addition to:
- Daily Newspaper of the Year
- Sunday Newspaper of the Year
- Scoop of the Year
- Print journalist of the Year
- Digital journalist of the Year
- Broadcaster of the Year
The much coveted Londoner of the Year and the Edgar Wallace Award will also be announced on the day.
Tickets for the Press Club Awards lunch are now available for booking, and prices have been held been frozen for the fourth year running. Early booking is recommended as the event is always a sell-out. The booking cost – which includes a drinks and canapés reception, two-course lunch including wine, coffee and petit fours – is: £155 per person, £145 for London Press Club Members (up to a maximum of two tickets) and £1500 for a table of 10.
