The Press Club is supporting an important and high profile online forum: The Shadow Pandemic: A Media Spotlight on Violence Against Women and Girls.

The event produced by The Media Circle, in association with The London Press Club and The Listening People, will be held on Tuesday, 10 November at 6.30pm.

The UN has described the worldwide increase in domestic abuse as a “shadow pandemic” alongside Covid-19. This special event shines a spotlight on violence against women and girls and its representation in the media. The Shadow Pandemic event brings together a phenomenal line-up of accomplished broadcasters and journalists to share their insights on why women and girls face increased levels of violence at this time, and what we can all do to ensure their stories are represented more widely in the media.

The panellists will be: Ayesha Hazarika – Evening Standard columnist, political commentator, broadcaster and an award-winning stand-up comedian; Helen Lewis – Journalist and Author of Difficult Women: A History of Feminism in 11 Fights. The conversation will be steered by Author and Broadcaster, Dearbhail McDonald.
