Tributes to broadcaster, journalist and campaigner Lynn Faulds Wood have poured in following her sudden death on Friday.
London Press Club chair Doug Wills said: “All of us who knew Lynn were devastated by this shocking news. She was a force of nature for good.
“Lynn was never too busy to be a wonderful supporter of the press club and particularly as a passionate member of the judging panel of the club’s annual awards.”
Bill Hagerty, chair of the awards panel for seven years, said: “Lynn was one of the nicest people we ever recruited to the LPC Awards judging panel, but no pushover when it came to fighting her corner. A vigorous and vocal supporter of equal opportunities for women, she kept both eyes on gender equality in journalism, fairly but firmly. I shall miss her feisty, funny presence awfully, especially when the awards season comes around.”
Carole Stone, a former member of the Press Club board, said: “Lynn will be remembered as broadcaster and a campaigner who cared about people. She was tough, a seeker after truth and a fighter, but she combined everything she did with her compassionate and generous nature. She would fight tirelessly for the causes in which she believed and she took people with her on her journey to help create a fairer society. She was a loved, supportive and valued friend who will be missed by so many.”
Lynn, who ceaselessly campaigned on behalf of cancer patients since she overcame bowel cancer herself, was best known for hosting the BBC Watchdog consumer investigation programme from 1985 to 1993, alongside her husband John Stapleton.
