Renowned Day of the Jackal author Frederick Forsyth has been presented with a London Press Club award for outstanding writing and journalism.
It announced at the London Press Club’s 2023 awards in October that the prestigious Edgar Wallace Award was being made to Freddie Forsyth, but he was unable to attend the ceremony.
Press Club chair Doug Wills presented the award at the new Raffles OWO Old War Office building in Whitehall last week. The award was received by Freddie in the Haldane Suite, which has a bust of Winston Churchill who spent time there when Secretary of State for War from1919 to 1921.
Freddie – who was a Reuters journalist who reported on the biggest stories in Paris, Berlin and the Biafra starvation tragedy, said he was particularly proud to receive the award from journalists.
Doug Wills told him: “There is no more fitting recipient for this prestigious award which recognises great writing and journalism.”
Freddie recently retired from writing a weekly column in the Express.
