Tickets are available to purchase <a href=\"https:\/\/londonpressclub.co.uk\/?ai1ec_event=max-hastings-on-the-60th-anniversary-of-the-cuban-missile-crisis\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hastings began researching his book on the 60th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis believing that he was exploring a past event from twentieth century history. The invasion of Ukraine gives this narrative a hitherto unimaginable twenty-first century immediacy. Only by fearing the worst, he argues, can our leaders hope to secure the survival of the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Hastings\u2019s major new history ABYSS tells the story from the viewpoints of national leaders, Russian officers, Cuban peasants, American pilots and British disarmers.<br \/>\nHastings is the author of thirty books, many about the world&#8217;s major military conflicts. As well as being a best-selling author, Sir Max was editor-in-chief of the <em>Daily\u00a0Telegraph\u00a0<\/em>between 1986 and 2002, then editor of the\u00a0<em>Evening Standard\u00a0<\/em>for five years.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tuesday 8 November 6.30pm at Stationers\u2019 Hall, <\/em>Ave Maria Lane, London EC4M 7DD (<em>near St Paul\u2019s Cathedral).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Drinks reception from 6.00 pm, lecture at 6.30 pm followed by questions from the floor.
