{"id":76,"date":"2019-09-06T10:17:01","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T09:17:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/londonpressclub-co-uk.stackstaging.com\/?p=76"},"modified":"2019-11-19T11:27:16","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T11:27:16","slug":"can-investigative-journalism-survive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/londonpressclub.co.uk\/?p=76","title":{"rendered":"Can investigative journalism survive?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That and other questions will be addressed when some of the&nbsp;nation\u2019s best investigative journalists responsible for breaking many of the&nbsp;most important, head-line grabbing stories of the past few years will debate&nbsp;the issue at the Society of Editors\u2019 Annual Conference in London in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those taking part in the panel will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Paul&nbsp;Henderson<\/strong>, Deputy Editor of the Daily Mirror and former Chief Investigative&nbsp;Reporter at the Daily Mail where he investigated multiple political and&nbsp;international scandals;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jane Bradley<\/strong>, a Pulitzer Prize finalist&nbsp;with her work as investigations correspondent at BuzzFeed News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tom&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Bristow<\/strong>, head of Archant Investigations, whose work at the Eastern Daily&nbsp;Press has led to criminal convictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Claire Newell<\/strong>, Investigations Editor at The Telegraph, will be joining the panel \u2013 her recent&nbsp;investigative work on Sir Philip Green highlighted a #MeToo scandal of the&nbsp;business world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Society of Editors executive director Ian Murray said: \u201cWith&nbsp;so many pressures on today\u2019s newsrooms it would be easy for real investigative&nbsp;journalism to wither on the vine, yet experience shows us this is far from the&nbsp;case. Can this continue, however, and what steps can be taken to strengthen&nbsp;even further this essential part of the industry and its role in the wider&nbsp;society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SoE has already announced that appearing at the&nbsp;conference will be Elizabeth Denham, the UK\u2019s Information Commissioner, amongst&nbsp;other major newspaper editors.
