{"id":1055,"date":"2023-10-18T10:22:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T09:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/londonpressclub.co.uk\/?p=1055"},"modified":"2024-11-25T10:56:36","modified_gmt":"2024-11-25T10:56:36","slug":"full-house-of-editors-and-writers-at-press-club-awards-lunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/londonpressclub.co.uk\/?p=1055","title":{"rendered":"Full house of editors and writers at Press Club Awards lunch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Times and FT win national newspaper awards<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>BBC reporter flies in from Moscow for broadcast award<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Pledge for freedom of the Press from shadow Secretary<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WINNERS of this year\u2019s London Press Club Awards have been announced at an awards lunchtime ceremony packed with 150 of Britain\u2019s top journalists including those from all national titles and major broadcasters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Awards ranged from National Daily Newspaper of the Year for The Times to a \u00a31,000 prize to the Young Journalist of the Year the Mail\u2019s Sabrina Miller.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BBC\u2019s Steven Rosenberg flew in from Moscow to receive the Broadcaster of the Year Award with the judges describing his reporting as \u201ca masterclass in revelatory, properly considered and fearless journalism\u201d.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1056\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1056\" class=\"wp-image-1056 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/londonpressclub1.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/media\/2023\/10\/18101056\/ly110_17-10-23_press_club_awards-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1056\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Broadcast Journalist of the Year, STEVE ROSENBERG<br \/>(\u00a9 Lucy Young 2023 www.lucyyoungphotos.co.uk)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Financial Times editor Roula Khalaf won Business Journalist of the Year with judges saying the \u201cFT gets better each year\u201d. The FT also won the Weekend\/Sunday Newspaper of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Press Club Awards lunch was held at Stationers\u2019 Hall near St Paul\u2019s. Keynote speaker was Thangam Debbonaire, shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport. She praised journalists and pledged to support their constant work for freedom of the press.<\/p>\n<p>Before the awards,\u00a0 the Rector of St Bride\u2019s in Fleet Street the Rt Rev Alison Joyce in giving grace called for a moment of silence to reflect on the 12 journalists who had been killed reporting from the awful events of the Hamas and Israeli troubles.<\/p>\n<p>The event was hosted by London Press Club chairman Doug Wills, chairman of the judges Nick Ferrari and compered by BBC\u2019s Riz Lateef.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday won the Scoop of the Year for showbiz editor Katie Hind\u2019s exclusive on former This Morning presenter Philip Schofield, and relationship with a younger member of staff which led to Schofield&#8217;s resignation from the programme.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1057\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1057\" class=\"wp-image-1057 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/londonpressclub1.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/media\/2023\/10\/18101538\/ly153_17-10-23_press_club_awards-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sabrina Miller on her way to collect her Young Journalist of the Year Award.<br \/>(\u00a9 Lucy Young 2023 www.lucyyoungphotos.co.uk<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Mail\u2019s Liz Hull and Caroline Cheetham won Multimedia Journalist of the Year for their extensive work on the trial of Lucy Letby, creating compelling content on 60 podcasts as well as coverage in the titles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Michael Atherton of The Times was awarded Sports Journalist of the Year, with his \u201cunmatched cricket knowledge as a former England captain, as well as his enthralling writing style, creating compelling content during the Ashes series\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Political Journalist of the Year was won by Times political editor Steven Swinford for \u00a0his \u201cin-depth reporting and insightful analysis\u201d which saw him report on the sacking of former Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarting before Kwarteng himself was informed.\u00a0The political award was presented by the Press Club for the first time and was in association with Lord Salisbury. It had a \u00a31,500 prize.<\/p>\n<p>The Mail\u2019s Stephen Wright won Journalist of the Year for his \u201cstand out investigations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Cudlipp award for campaigning and investigative journalism was awarded Sky News in collaboration with Tortoise Media for their Westminster Accounts investigation which was \u201cfull of Cudlippian enterprise\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Edgar Wallace Award for outstanding writing and journalism was won by Day of the Jackal author Frederick Forsyth who retired after 20 years of writing columns in the Express.<\/p>\n<p>Londoner of the Year Awards \u2013 given annually by the Press Club \u2013 were announced as The Lionesses, and also LBC for its 50 year anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The full list of
