The results are in: How well do journalists cope with stress?
The London Press Club invites you to an evening hosted by neuroscientist Dr Tara Stewart who will be revealing the results of a study she recently conducted into the mental resilience of journalists.
Join us at the Corinthia Hotel London on Wednesday May 17 at 6:30pm to hear Tara (below) and a panel of journalists – chaired by senior editor and broadcaster Anne McElvoy – discuss what the pressure points are for this industry, and how journalists might enhance their ability to cope with the demands of the job.
Launched in association with the London Press Club in July 2016, the study was borne out of Tara’s fascination with how the human brain works, specifically in people whose professions particularly require a high degree of mental resilience. Journalism is one of many industries under increasing amounts of pressure in the digital age.
As a group, journalists are subject to daily or sometimes hourly deadlines, accountability and exposure, social media feedback and being in the public eye.
For this unique study, data has been collated from a group of journalists from across the media industry. Tara has gathered buy modafinil cheap online empirical and anecdotal information about their eating and drinking habits, heart rate variability, blood tests and brain profile to inform her analysis.
A leadership coach, author, senior lecturer at MIT and medical doctor, Tara works with some of the world’s most successful companies to help them achieve mental resilience, peak brain performance and, through this, a competitive edge.
She will be joined by Anne McElvoy, the Senior Editor of The Economist, who will bring a wealth of experience in the industry as an editor, columnist, foreign correspondent and broadcast journalist, to lead the conversation.
As a follow up to the study, Tara will also be running a resilience-enhancing programme at a country retreat for a number of the study participants.
One lucky attendee at the event at Corinthia Hotel with an interest in learning more about brain health will be chosen on the night to stay at the retreat.
