London Press Club joins Mayor of London and youth leadership organisation UpRising to kick off search for ‘One Million Mentors’

Aspiring journalists from across the Capital will have the opportunity to get advice and support from established professionals working in the press, broadcasting and digital media as part of a new initiative backed by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
The London Press Club is teaming up with UK-wide youth leadership development organisation UpRising to help launch a new scheme which will offer mentoring to the next generation of journalists.

The event has the support of the office of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and will be attended by Statutory Deputy Mayor of London Joanne McCartney, whose brief includes education.
Join us at City Hall on March 20 for an evening of ‘speed mentoring’, networking and special guests from media and politics including Mihir Bose, sports journalist, author and former BBC Sports Editor, who will speak about the benefits of mentoring.
The ‘One Million Mentors’ London Pilot will enable mentors to access online training, face-to-face training, and resources to advise on good practice.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “I believe good mentoring can make a significant impact to the lives of young Londoners. Mentoring has the potential to accelerate learning, skills, networks and opportunities of our young people to realise their potential and positively contribute economically and socially to our great city.”
Rushanara Ali MP Co-Founder of UpRising and Founding Chair of One Million Mentors commented: “We believe the full potential of One Million Mentors could be transformational in increasing employability skills, unlocking new opportunities and networks, promoting social mobility and social cohesion.”
London Press Club chairman Doug Wills added: “Starting out in the media can be such a challenge. This mentoring event will bring together the journalists of the future with those who are willing to give the benefit of their experience. Our club members are excited at being able to offer this support as we can’t think of a better way of helping to secure the future of our great industry.
The event will begin with a Drinks Reception at 6.00pm, and will be held on the ninth floor of City Hall, London’s Living Room.
The event is kindly sponsored by GorkanaJobs, the leading journalist jobs recruitment website and our newly launched PR jobs. For all your latest journalists and PR jobs, visit (a Cision company).
