Do we get the politicians we deserve?

March 30 see the dissolution of Parliament and the beginning of the ‘short campaign’ for May’s General Election. On March 31 the London Press Club joins with City University to ask:Do we get the politicians we deserve? 

The debate, to be held at the university’s St John Street campus on Tuesday March 31 at 6.30pm, will be chaired by City professor of journalism and Guardian columnist Roy Greenslade. The panel will include, subject to work commitments: Heather Brooke, City journalism professor and award-winning journalist behind the MPs’ expenses scandal; Stephen Bush, formerly of theTelegraph and now editor of the New Statesman’s Staggers political blog; Michael Crick, Channel 4 News political correspondent and PSA journalist of the year; Anne McElvoy, public policy editor for The Economist and Evening Standard columnist; and Steve Richards, broadcaster and chief political columnist for The Independent

The event is the latest in a series of London Press Club debates at venues including the Telegraph, the News Building and the British Library covering investigative journalism, women in media and campaigning journalism.
